Let me start by stating that I am delighted to be writing my first article for the Crostyx website as Mens’ 1st Team Captain. Following in the heroic footsteps of James Duck (07/08) and Wayne Bishop (08/09) is a daunting task to say the least but with a growing membership, fantastic coaching, superb facilities and an unbeatable social environment, it is one that I intend to embrace. My first duty is to say a big thank you to those first team playing members who have temporarily called time on their official involvement with Crostyx: Tim Watson (Coach), James Duck (1s Captain) and Wayne Bishop (1s Captain). These chaps did a fantastic job and were, to a man, integral to the clubs’ success over the last 2 years; a success which saw the Mens’ 1st team secure back to back promotions! Tim, Wayne and Jimmy will be involved with Crostyx in one way or another this season so if you see them in the bar, please buy them a drink – you know they deserve (need) one! Moving forward, it is my honour to introduce those fellows with the tough act to follow: James Ward (a.k.a. Wardy) has agreed to act as Vice-Captain for the 1s and Shuhel Malique (a.k.a. Too Good) has accepted the position as Club Coach. These guys are already doing a great job and I am sure you will all continue to offer them same level of support as you afforded their predecessors. As most of you know, training has begun in earnest and will take place every Tuesday evening from 8pm at the Peter May Astro. Malique is a superb coach, we are very lucky to have him, and the sessions thus far have been extremely beneficial and enjoyable. Please spread the word to your mates: Crostyx is a great place to play hockey and socialise – why not come along? In fact, the above sentence is a huge understatement: the Mens’ first, second and third teams have all enjoyed back to back promotions over the last two years and the Indoor team won the Essex League without losing a game! Unable to stop there, our success continues: we won the Essex Cup on 5th September so have been crowned Champions of Essex for the 09/10 season! There aren’t many clubs around who can boast of such a record! On top of this, our new playing shirts, courtesy of Kevin Foot and Cowans Direct (www.cowansdirect.co.uk) will arrive in September – Thanks Kevin – and a new line of club kit will be available to purchase online very shortly so watch this space.
